I was hired on a 3-month contract to create the first ever user experience programme for the UK Data Service incorporating GDS UX methods.
This project required engagement with all areas of the service to establish business needs for user research, and to ensure the programme proposed would cover all requirements, and be achievable for the departments involved.
The programme delivered covered: an assessment of the UX work completed previously; a plan for launching the programme in phases; guidance on how to make the transition into UX centred design and development, and embed this into their existing processes; resource recommendations for a new UX team; how to store results and ensure results are shared between functions; how to remove the blockers to UX research/analysis I had identified within the service; using UX to set KPIs; training for staff to upskill them for commencement of the programme; a clear outline of responsibilities for each function; and a recommendation for future UX work once the first phases were embedded.

“Catherine worked with the UK Data Service to develop a plan for a sustainable User Experience Programme for the organisation. She succeeded in this major task, utilising her set of skills: user experience expertise, leadership, project management, and excellent interpersonal communication.
Catherine was particularly effective at customising her recommendations to meet the particular needs and context of the organisation. Her wide-ranging skills are applicable to many settings and I would highly recommend her.”
